Particles and Fields

A tip here on parenting fields to particles
This would allow a field (force) to dynamically move through space following the trajectory of a particle. Another way to do this would be to use the script which generated cuves from particle trajectory then animate along a path.

Deformable Grids

Setting up a deformation lattice in Maya might be the way to simulate Eisenmanns process of deforming grids and creating nets. Link here to an explanation of how the lattice works
